New Delhi, Oct 31: President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah marked the 148th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on Tuesday by offering floral tributes at his statue situated at Patel Chowk.
The former deputy prime minister was also honoured by Union Minister Meenakashi Lekhi and Delhi LG VK Saxena.
Home Minister Shah also gave the Unity oath and flagged off the “Run For Unity” from Major Dhyan Chand Stadium on this occasion.
October 31 is observed as National Unity Day each year. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel held the positions of India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister from 1947 to 1950.
As a prominent leader in the Congress party, he is celebrated for his pivotal role in the integration of over 550 princely states into a single nation, a momentous accomplishment in India’s history.
