Narmada, Oct 31: On the birth anniversary of India’s first Home Minister, celebrated as National Unity Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered floral tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at the Statue of Unity in Ekta Nagar in Gujarat’s Narmada.

PM Modi unveiled the ‘Statue of Unity’, honouring Sardar Patel, here on October 31, 2018.

At an event in Ekta Nagar (City of Unity), formerly known as Kevadia in the Narmada district, the Prime Minister pledged the crowd to the oath of unity.

On the 148th anniversary of the “Iron Man’s” birth, Prime Minister Modi attended the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) parade, which featured state police and Border Security Force marching units.

The 31st of October has been observed as National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas since 2014. People from all walks of life participate in the nationwide ‘Run for Unity’ events held on this anniversary.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister was treated to a variety of performances, including a daring show by all-female CRPF bikers, a women’s pipe band from the BSF, a choreographed program by the Gujarat women police, a special NCC show, a school bands display, an Indian Air Force fly past, and a demonstration of the economic viability of vibrant villages.

On the occasion of the birth anniversary of the nation’s former Deputy Prime Minister, Prime Minister Modi expressed earlier in the day that the country will always be indebted to his dedicated service.

“On the Jayanti of Sardar Patel, we remember his indomitable spirit, visionary statesmanship and the extraordinary dedication with which he shaped the destiny of our nation. His commitment to national integration continues to guide us. We are forever indebted to his service,” Prime Minister Modi wrote in a post on X.
