Hathras(Uttar Pradesh): At least 27 people, including women and three children, lost their lives in a devastating stampede during a religious event in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday, officials reported. The tragic incident occurred during a ‘satsang’ (prayer meeting) held in a village within the Sikandra Rao police station limits.
Visuals from the Community Health Centre depicted a heart-wrenching scene, with several bodies being brought in amidst distraught relatives.
Dr. Umesh Kumar Tripathi, Chief Medical Officer of Etah, confirmed the grim toll: “We have received 27 bodies, of which 25 are female and two are male. Some injured individuals have also been taken to hospitals. While we know the stampede happened during a ‘satsang’, further details are still forthcoming.”
Senior Superintendent of Police, Etah, Rajesh Kumar, provided additional details, confirming that three children were among the deceased. “So far, 27 bodies have been sent to the hospital, of which 23 are women and three are children,” he stated.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with authorities working to understand the cause of the stampede and provide support to the victims’ families.
