Harare, Zimbabwe: In a thrilling encounter at the Harare Sports Club, Zimbabwe pulled off a stunning 13-run victory over India in the first T20I on Saturday. Zimbabwe’s bowlers delivered an enthusiastic performance, utilizing the extra bounce on the surface to perfection and bowling out India for 102 in 19.5 overs.
India seemed to have the upper hand after restricting Zimbabwe to a modest 115 for 9 in their 20 overs, thanks to an exceptional bowling display by Ravi Bishnoi, who achieved career-best figures of 4 for 13. Despite this strong start, Zimbabwe’s bowlers fought back remarkably.
Tendai Chatara (3 for 16) and Sikandar Raza (3 for 25) were the standout performers for Zimbabwe, effectively dismantling the Indian batting lineup. Washington Sundar (27) offered some resistance, battling until the end, but ultimately fell short in steering India to victory.
Shubman Gill had earlier won the toss and opted to bowl, a decision that seemed justified when India’s bowlers restricted Zimbabwe to a seemingly low total. However, Zimbabwe’s resilience shone through as they capitalized on the conditions, leading to an unexpected but well-deserved win.
This match highlighted the unpredictability and excitement of T20 cricket, with Zimbabwe demonstrating their capability to challenge and triumph over higher-ranked teams.
