New Delhi: Former US President Donald Trump recounted a harrowing incident at a rally in Pennsylvania where he was shot at, resulting in a bullet piercing the upper part of his right ear. Trump shared his experience on his Truth Social site, describing how he heard a whizzing sound and immediately felt the bullet rip through his skin.
“I knew immediately that something was wrong when I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and felt the bullet ripping through the skin,” Trump stated. Fortunately, he was not seriously injured and is currently being checked at a local medical facility, according to Trump Communications Director Steven Cheung.
The shooting occurred about seven minutes into the rally in Butler, western Pennsylvania, on Saturday. The event, attended by thousands of Trump supporters, was being broadcast live on news channels when the shots rang out. Trump, aged 78, was seen ducking as Secret Service agents swiftly surrounded and escorted him off the stage. Trump was heard saying, “Let me get my shoes,” as he was led to safety.
In a statement, Trump expressed his gratitude to the Secret Service and law enforcement for their rapid response. He also extended condolences to the families of the rally attendees who were affected by the incident, noting that one person was killed and another badly injured.
“It is incredible that such an act can take place in our country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead,” Trump said. He described the sensation of being shot, noting the immediate bleeding and the realization of what was happening.
The incident occurred just two days before the start of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where Trump will formally become the party’s nominee.
This shocking event has highlighted the ongoing security challenges faced by public figures and the critical role of the Secret Service in protecting them. The incident underscores the volatile nature of political events in the current climate and the importance of vigilance and preparedness.
