Kannur: A shocking incident unfolded in Kannur when a police driver was booked for attempted murder after attempting to flee a petrol pump without paying, resulting in a petrol pump employee being carried on the car’s bonnet for nearly a kilometer. The accused driver has been arrested and suspended from service, according to police.

Kannur City Police Commissioner Ajith Kumar confirmed that multiple charges, including attempted murder, have been filed against the driver, identified as K Santhosh Kumar. The arrest was officially recorded on Monday.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening when the driver allegedly tried to leave a petrol pump without paying for the fuel. Anil, the petrol pump employee, confronted the driver, leading to an argument. As the confrontation escalated, the driver suddenly accelerated, causing Anil to be thrown onto the bonnet of the car.

CCTV footage of the dramatic scene shows Anil clinging to the bonnet of the speeding vehicle as it traveled along a busy highway for nearly one kilometer. The visuals quickly went viral on social media, drawing widespread attention and outrage.

Anil sustained injuries to his hands during the incident and later filed a complaint with the Town Police. The police acted swiftly, arresting and suspending the driver from service.

Commissioner Ajith Kumar emphasized that such behavior from a police officer is unacceptable and assured that strict actions have been taken to address the situation. The incident has raised serious concerns about accountability and conduct within the police force.
