Ghaziabad: In a heartbreaking incident, 27-year-old Shivani Tyagi, a relationship manager at Axis Bank’s Noida branch, took her own life at her home in Ghaziabad last Friday. Shivani reportedly endured six months of severe bullying, body-shaming, and mental torture at her workplace, which led to her tragic decision.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ghaziabad, Gyananjay Singh, confirmed the allegations, stating, “It appears that she was being body-shamed, bullied, and harassed at her workplace.”
A suicide note, allegedly written by Shivani, was recovered from her room. The note detailed her humiliation and named five individuals, demanding the death penalty for them.
Initially, Shivani did not disclose the harassment to her family. However, as the abuse became unbearable, she confided in them about her daily struggles at work. Her brother, Gaurav Tyagi, recounted the ordeal, highlighting a female colleague who frequently criticized Shivani’s appearance, eating habits, and manner of speaking. “She would pick on her dressing sense, her eating habits, and her manner of speaking. Shivani was called names. People would often pick on her,” Gaurav said.
Gaurav also mentioned an incident where the colleague physically attacked Shivani, prompting her to retaliate by slapping the woman back. Despite her attempts to resign multiple times, the company allegedly found excuses to reject her resignation.
The final blow came after the slap incident when the company reportedly issued Shivani a termination notice. According to her family, this was the last straw for her. Despite numerous complaints, no action was taken by the company, her family claimed.
Shivani’s tragic death has sparked an investigation into the workplace environment at Axis Bank’s Noida branch, raising serious concerns about mental health and harassment in corporate settings.
