Tel Aviv: A powerful explosion shook a building in Tel Aviv on Friday morning, wounding at least two people. The Israeli police confirmed that several officials, including bomb disposal experts, promptly arrived at the scene and are actively “dealing with the situation,” according to AFP reports. The cause of the explosion remains unknown.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) are investigating the possibility that the explosion could have been caused by an aerial target. Residents living near the blast site reported that objects in their homes were shattered due to the explosion, as per The Jerusalem Post.

This incident comes shortly after the Israeli military announced the killing of Habib Maatouk, a senior commander of the Iran-backed Hezbollah, in southern Lebanon. Maatouk is the latest high-ranking member to be killed amid ongoing cross-border strikes between Israel and Hezbollah.

Just days earlier, Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah threatened to escalate attacks if Israel targeted more civilians. The following day, the group launched dozens of rockets and missiles at Israel, including an unprecedented attack on the Filon base in Safed, Reuters reported.

The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has intensified since the group declared support for Palestinians after the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel, which resulted in at least 14 deaths and ignited a large-scale war. The ongoing fighting in Lebanon has claimed the lives of over 100 civilians and more than 300 Hezbollah fighters.

Simultaneously, the Israel-Hamas war has led to over 38,600 deaths and a humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, displacing the majority of its 2.3 million residents.
