Navi Mumbai: A three-storey building collapsed early Saturday morning in Navi Mumbai’s Shahbaz village, with several people feared trapped. Navi Mumbai Deputy Fire Officer Purushottam Jadhav reported that two individuals have been rescued, while two others are likely still trapped beneath the rubble.

“We received a call about a building collapse at 4:50 am. Two people have been rescued, and two are likely to be trapped. Rescue operations are underway,” Jadhav informed ANI.

Kailas Shinde, Commissioner of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, confirmed the ongoing rescue efforts. “The building collapsed around 5 am. It is a G+3 building. Two people have been rescued, and two are likely trapped. The NDRF team is here, and rescue operations are underway,” Shinde stated.

This incident follows another building-related accident on July 20, when parts of the balcony of Rubina Manzil in Mumbai’s Grant Road area collapsed. One person died, and 13 others were injured in that incident, which occurred near the Grant Road Railway Station.

Maharashtra’s continuous heavy rainfall has severely impacted daily life, particularly in Mumbai, where public transport services have been disrupted, causing significant inconvenience to commuters. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Madhya Maharashtra on July 28, anticipating further heavy rainfall.

Several regions in Maharashtra are grappling with severe waterlogging and extensive traffic snarls due to the relentless downpour.
