Ranchi: The modernization of Jamshedpur and Seraikela jails is set to begin, with the Jharkhand Disaster Management and Welfare Department approving a budget of Rs 2.36 crore for the project. The responsibility for withdrawing and utilizing these funds has been assigned to the Inspector General (IG) of Prisons.
The funds will be withdrawn from the district treasury of the respective districts and then transferred to the account of the Jharkhand Police Housing Corporation Limited. The entire project is expected to be completed within two years.
Details of the Modernization Work:
- Jamshedpur Jail: The modernization work will include the renovation of the Home Guard barrack, JAP barrack, Ex-Army barrack, boundary wall, and probation office. The total cost for these renovations is estimated at Rs 2.16 crore.
- Seraikela Jail: The renovation work will focus on the doctor’s ward and the library, with an estimated cost of Rs 20.38 lakh.
