Wayanad: Massive landslides struck several hilly areas near Meppadi in Kerala’s Wayanad district early on Tuesday, with fears mounting that hundreds may be trapped.
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) reported that Fireforce and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed to the affected areas. An additional NDRF team is also on its way to Wayanad to assist in the rescue efforts.
In a Facebook post, KSDMA mentioned that two teams from the Kannur Defence Security Corps have been instructed to move to Wayanad to aid the rescue operations. Local reports indicate that many people are feared to be trapped under the debris.
The rescue operations are being significantly hampered by ongoing heavy rainfall, complicating efforts to reach those in need and increasing the urgency of the situation.
