New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested an Assistant Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20 lakh in the national capital. The official, identified as Sandeep Singh Yadav, was apprehended while taking the bribe from a jeweler in exchange for providing relief to the jeweler’s son in an ongoing case with the ED.
The arrest occurred in Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar area, where CBI officers laid a trap after receiving a complaint about the illicit activity. A senior CBI official confirmed that Yadav was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe.
Following the arrest, the CBI initiated the process of registering an FIR against Yadav, marking the beginning of what could be a broader investigation into the incident. More updates on the case are expected as the investigation unfolds.
This is not the first time an ED official has been implicated in a bribery scandal. In August 2023, the CBI arrested another Assistant Director of the ED, along with six other officials, for accepting a bribe of Rs 5 crore to shield Delhi businessman Aman Dhall in connection with the Delhi liquor scam case.
