Cuttack: In a disturbing incident that has shaken the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, a cardiology MD student has been accused of sexually assaulting two women patients under the guise of conducting a medical examination. This comes amid the national outrage following the tragic rape and murder of a woman doctor in Kolkata.

According to officials, the incident occurred on August 11 when the mother and aunt of a second-year MBBS student visited the cardiology department for a check-up. They were advised to undergo an echocardiogram and were asked to return for further tests. However, during the follow-up visit, the two women alleged that the male doctor inappropriately touched them while performing an ECG.

The situation escalated when the women reported the incident to the MBBS student, who then informed her seniors. In response, the Junior Doctors Association summoned the accused doctor, who was subsequently assaulted by a group of MBBS students. The doctor sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving treatment in the ICU at the same hospital.

Initially hesitant, the two women eventually filed an FIR after senior doctors intervened and encouraged them to take legal action. The police have recorded their statements under Sections 161 and 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anil Mishra stated, “The investigation into the allegations is ongoing, and we are examining CCTV footage related to the case. Due to the sensitive nature of the incident, further details cannot be disclosed at this time.”

Mishra also mentioned that the police would register a case if the injured doctor decides to file a complaint regarding the assault.
