New Delhi: In the wake of the Supreme Court’s harsh criticism of the West Bengal government’s handling of the Kolkata rape-murder case, state Governor CV Ananda Bose expressed his relief at the court’s observations, while also taking a pointed dig at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Speaking from the national capital, Governor Bose commented on the court’s remarks, which highlighted the state’s delay in filing a First Information Report (FIR) in the case. The governor remarked, “Remember, every saint has a past, every sinner has a future. Anyone listening?” He further added, “Will Mamata Banerjee please raise her hands?”—a clear jab at the Chief Minister’s leadership amid the ongoing controversy.

The case in question involves the tragic rape and murder of a second-year postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, which has sparked widespread outrage and protests across the state.

Amid the ongoing agitation, Governor Bose launched a mobile control room, aimed at providing the public with a direct line to convey their concerns to him. The Raj Bhavan Media Cell, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), announced the creation of this control room, sharing the contact numbers 03322001641 and 92890 10682 for those wishing to reach out.

In a symbolic gesture, Governor Bose made the first call from the control room to the victim’s father, offering his full support during this difficult time.

The Supreme Court’s rebuke of the West Bengal government has intensified the scrutiny on how the state has managed the investigation and the public unrest that has followed. As the situation develops, the governor’s criticism and his actions may further strain relations between the state’s executive branch and the central authority represented by the governor.
