New Delhi: A grave scandal has unfolded at Gudlavalleru Engineering College in Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district, where a hidden camera was allegedly discovered in the women’s hostel toilet. The camera, reportedly used to record videos of students without their knowledge, has triggered significant unrest on campus, leading to a night of protests.

The Andhra Pradesh government has swiftly responded to the incident, with Human Resource Development Minister Nara Lokesh announcing an official inquiry. In a statement on X, Lokesh emphasized that “stringent action” would be taken against those responsible and assured that measures would be implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The controversy began when female students reportedly found the concealed camera in their hostel toilet last evening. This discovery sparked immediate panic and led to a large-scale protest that continued through the night. Students chanted “We want justice” as they demanded answers and accountability.

The police have made one arrest in connection with the scandal, detaining a senior student from the boys’ hostel. Authorities seized his laptop and mobile phone, although no leaked videos have been uncovered thus far. Krishna District SP Gandadhar Rao confirmed that searches conducted in the girls’ hostels did not reveal any additional hidden cameras. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover the full extent of the incident and ensure that the affected students are reassured.

This alarming event has left many female students deeply unsettled, with some expressing fear and discomfort about using the hostel’s restroom facilities. The situation mirrors a recent similar case in Bengaluru, where a hidden phone was found in a women’s washroom at a coffee shop, raising concerns about privacy and security.

The Andhra Pradesh government and college officials are under pressure to address these serious breaches of privacy and restore a sense of safety and trust among students.
