New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has issued a second letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi concerning the brutal rape and murder of a post-graduate trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
In her latest correspondence, Banerjee expressed frustration over the absence of a direct response from Modi regarding her previous appeal. Her letter, dated August 22, 2024, had called for stringent central legislation on rape cases and the imposition of severe penalties on perpetrators. Despite the urgent nature of her request, Banerjee received only a general reply from the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development, which she deemed insufficient for addressing such a critical issue.
Banerjee’s repeated appeal underscores the gravity of the crime and her demand for a more decisive action from the central government. She has reiterated her call for comprehensive legislative measures to combat sexual violence and ensure justice for victims.
The incident has sparked significant public outcry and highlighted ongoing concerns about the effectiveness of current legal frameworks in addressing such heinous crimes. Banerjee’s continued efforts reflect her commitment to advocating for stronger protections and accountability in cases of sexual violence.
