Shambhu Border, Haryana: Renowned wrestler Vinesh Phogat joined the ongoing farmers’ protest at the Shambhu border on Saturday, marking the 200th day of their sit-in with a strong message of solidarity. Addressing the large gathering of farmers, Phogat declared, “Your daughter is with you,” reiterating her commitment to their cause.
Farmers have been stationed at the Shambhu border since February 13, following a blockade that prevented their march to Delhi. Their primary demand is a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all crops, along with other critical issues affecting the agricultural community.
As a prominent figure in both the sports world and the farmers’ movement, Phogat was warmly received by the protesters, who honored her with garlands. In her speech, she expressed deep admiration for the farmers, acknowledging their resilience and unwavering determination despite the long duration of the protest.
“I am proud to be born into a farmer’s family,” Phogat said. “I want to tell you that your daughter is with you. We must stand for our rights because no one else will. I pray that your demands are met, and I urge you not to return without securing your rights.”
Phogat also used the platform to appeal to the government, urging them to heed the farmers’ demands. She voiced her disappointment over the government’s prolonged inaction, highlighting the farmers’ persistence as a source of inspiration for others fighting for justice.
“Farmers have been sitting here for 200 days, fighting for their rights. It is disheartening that they have not been listened to all this time. Their determination has given us all strength,” she added.
Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher emphasized that while the protest remains peaceful, it is conducted with great intensity. He accused the central government of testing their resolve by ignoring their demands and announced that they would soon present their demands again, along with new strategies.
The farmers have also called for strict action against Bollywood actress and Member of Parliament (MP) Kangana Ranaut, whose controversial remarks have previously drawn the ire of the farming community. They urged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to take a firm stand against Ranaut.
Looking ahead, the farmers hinted at their plans to actively participate in the upcoming Haryana polls. They intend to announce their strategy in the coming days, signaling their intention to play a significant role in the state’s political landscape.
