Trichy: DMK MP K Kanimozhi on Friday criticized the ‘One Nation, One Poll’ proposal, calling it an attempt by the BJP to strengthen its hold on power while eroding state autonomy. Speaking at the ‘Kalaignar 100 Quiz’ event in Thanjavur, the DMK deputy general secretary argued that the proposal offers no real benefit to the public, but is designed to favor the ruling BJP by pushing forward policies aligned with their agenda.

“The proposal doesn’t seem to serve the people. Instead, it’s meant to provide a political advantage to the BJP, without considering its impact on democratically elected governments,” Kanimozhi said. She accused the BJP government of systematically stripping away the rights of states through policies like “One Nation, One Ration” and “One Language,” which she argued reduce state autonomy.

Kanimozhi reiterated that the DMK, under Chief Minister MK Stalin, will strongly oppose any measures that undermine democracy or the rights of the states. “We will not accept any actions that threaten the democratic framework of the country or the sovereignty of state governments,” she added.
