New Delhi: The owner of Rau’s IAS Study Circle, a prominent coaching institute in Delhi’s Rajinder Nagar, has been granted interim bail by the Rouse Avenue Court on Monday following the tragic drowning of three civil service aspirants in the institute’s basement. The incident, which occurred in July, sparked outrage over the safety standardsand infrastructure at the coaching facility.

The court extended interim bail to the coaching centre’s CEO, Abhishek Gupta, and its coordinator Deshpal Singh, allowing them bail until December 7. Both were granted bail after furnishing a bond of ₹1 lakh, along with two sureties of the same amount.

Tragic Incident and Investigation

The tragedy took place on July 27, when Shreya Yadav (25) from Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni (25) from Telangana, and Nevin Delvin (24) from Kerala drowned in the basement library of Rau’s IAS Study Circle after it was flooded due to heavy rain. The incident raised questions about the institute’s infrastructure and safety measures, as well as the responsibility of local authorities in ensuring proper enforcement of building regulations.

Other Arrests and Legal Proceedings

In addition to the bail granted to Gupta and Singh, the Delhi High Court had earlier granted interim bail to four co-owners of the basement where the incident occurred. An SUV driver was also arrested for allegedly driving his vehicle through a flooded road near the coaching centre, which is believed to have caused the water to breach the gates of the institute and flood the basement.

The incident led to widespread criticism, with many questioning the coaching centre’s failure to follow safety norms, as well as the authorities’ inability to enforce critical infrastructure safety measures.

As the legal process continues, the case has drawn attention to the safety regulations in educational institutions, especially in areas prone to flooding and inadequate drainage systems. The interim bail for Gupta and Singh will remain in effect until the next hearing on December 7.
