Ranchi: In a significant move towards promoting Jharkhand’s rich cultural heritage on a global scale, the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the Jharkhand Tourism, Art & Culture Department signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Saturday. The event took place at the ICCR headquarters in New Delhi, with the MoU signed by ICCR Director General Kumar Tuhin and Jharkhand’s Art and Culture Director Asif Ekram. The MoU marks Jharkhand’s first-ever agreement with the ICCR, aiming to expand the state’s cultural footprint internationally.

A Global Stage for Jharkhand’s Artists

This partnership is set to provide Jharkhand’s artists with a broader and prestigious global platform to showcase their talents. The MoU will enable the state’s cultural assets to be displayed internationally through various cultural exchange programs, ensuring that Jharkhand’s art, music, dance, and traditions reach a global audience. With this move, Jharkhand joins 21 other Indian states that have already signed similar agreements with ICCR.

Strengthening Cultural and Diplomatic Relations

The ICCR, known for promoting India’s soft power through cultural diplomacy, will now play a key role in fostering cultural and diplomatic relations between Jharkhand and countries across the world. This cultural exchange is expected to create new avenues for tourism and artistic collaborations, enhancing the state’s global reputation as a center of cultural richness.

Asif Ekram, Jharkhand’s Art and Culture Director, highlighted that the agreement will allow Jharkhand’s art and traditions to gain recognition not only in India but also internationally. He added, “The MoU ensures that our artists will have the opportunity to represent Jharkhand’s vibrant culture abroad while also bringing global cultural influences to our state, benefiting both our local culture and tourism industry.”

A Platform for Cultural Growth

This partnership also signals a new chapter for Jharkhand’s cultural development, as international artists and performers from different countries will be invited to participate in cultural exchanges in the state. The mutual sharing of artistic practices is expected to boost local tourism and provide residents with exposure to global art forms.

The ICCR, operating under the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, is responsible for organizing academic, cultural, and artistic events globally. The council’s initiatives promote Indian art and culture worldwide, and this new collaboration with Jharkhand will further strengthen the cultural connections between India and the world.
