New York: Former US President Donald Trump has advised Israel to launch preemptive strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities amidst rising tensions between the two nations. His remarks come in response to recent missile attacks from Iran and heightened concerns about the potential for further escalation in the Middle East.
Trump’s comments followed President Joe Biden’s remarks on the situation, where Biden suggested that a full-scale war in the region could still be avoided. However, Trump took a different stance, stating that Israel should focus on targeting Iran’s nuclear sites, emphasizing the dangers posed by nuclear weapons.
Trump’s Call for Targeting Iran’s Nuclear Facilities
Referring to a question posed to President Biden about Israel potentially striking Iran, Trump questioned why nuclear sites were not the top priority: “They asked him, what do you think about Iran? Would you hit Iran? And he goes, ‘As long as they don’t hit the nuclear stuff.’ That’s the thing you want to hit, right?”
He further added, “Isn’t that what you’re supposed to hit? It’s the biggest risk we have—nuclear weapons. Biden should have advised Israel to hit Iran’s nuclear sites and worry about everything else later.”
Biden’s Caution Against Escalation
In contrast, President Biden, when asked about the possibility of an “all-out war” involving Israel, Iran, and Lebanon, downplayed the likelihood, comparing it to predicting the weather: “How confident are you it’s not going to rain? I don’t believe there’s going to be an all-out war. I think we can avoid it.”
Iran’s Stance Amid Rising Tensions
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei recently justified Iran’s missile attacks on Israel, calling them “legal and legitimate” retaliation for Israel’s actions. His remarks were made in his first Friday sermon in five years, signaling Iran’s continued stance against Israel, while also reflecting on the one-year anniversary of Hamas’ attack on Israel.
With the Middle East on edge, Trump’s statement has stirred conversations about the approach Israel should take amid ongoing provocations from Iran.
