Ranchi: After years of anticipation, Ranchi’s Harmu Road is set to get its long-awaited four-lane flyover. Chief Minister Hemant Soren laid the foundation stone for the flyover on Friday, marking a significant step toward resolving one of the city’s biggest traffic challenges. The construction, which is expected to begin right after Diwali, will bring major relief to residents troubled by persistent traffic bottlenecks at key points like Ratu Road Chowk, Shani Mandir Chowk, and Kishore Ganj Chowk.

The Harmu Road is not just a major commuting route for Ranchi but also a critical pathway for VIP movements. During high-profile visits, residents in nearby areas often find themselves stuck due to security-related restrictions. With the completion of the flyover, these frequent disruptions will be minimized, offering much-needed relief to the local population.

Key Details of the Harmu Elevated Flyover

The flyover, stretching 3.53 km, will start at Sahjanand Chowk and run through Bharat Mata Chowk, Kishore Ganj Chowk, and Gadi Khana Chowk, ending at Judge Colony on Kanke Road. The state government approved this ₹470 crore project in June, with ₹355 crore dedicated to construction costs, while the remaining amount will cover land acquisition, relocation of utilities, and consultancy expenses. The tender process for the project is in its final stages.

Once completed, the flyover will offer a smooth, elevated route for vehicles, bypassing several congested intersections along Harmu Road, which has long been a source of frustration for commuters.

Flyover’s Intersection with Ratu Road

The Harmu Flyover will intersect with the Ratu Road Flyover, which is currently under construction. At the junction, the Harmu Flyover will be elevated 18 meters above Ratu Road, allowing for an uninterrupted flow of traffic along both roads. This careful planning ensures that the new infrastructure not only solves today’s traffic problems but also accommodates future demands.

Dedicated Ramps for Easy Access

To ensure seamless entry and exit, dedicated ramps will be built at strategic locations. These ramps will be positioned near the ACB Office and Harmu Chowk, allowing vehicles to merge easily onto the flyover. Additional ramps will be built near Sahjanand Chowk to provide connectivity to areas like Kadru, and another is planned before the Ratu Road crossing near Gaushala.
