New Delhi: Noel Tata has been appointed as the new chairman of Tata Trusts, following the passing of his half-brother, Ratan Tata, at the age of 86 earlier this week, as per a report by CNBC. At 67 years old, Noel Tata will now take on the pivotal role of leading the Tata Trusts, which holds a 66% stake in Tata Sons, the holding company of the extensive Tata empire.
This appointment is significant for the Tata Group, a conglomerate with a legacy spanning more than 150 years, as Noel Tata becomes the 11th chairman of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and the sixth chairman of the Sir Ratan Tata Trust.
Who is Noel Tata?
Noel Tata has been a key figure within the Tata Group for over four decades. As the son of Naval H. Tata and Simone N. Tata, he has held several high-ranking positions within the group. He is also a trustee on the boards of the Sir Ratan Tata Trust and the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust.
His children, Maya, Neville, and Leah, are actively involved in the family’s charitable activities and serve as trustees for various charities associated with Tata Trusts.

Noel Tata holds a degree from Sussex University in the UK and has completed the International Executive Programme (IEP) at INSEAD.
Leadership Experience
Noel Tata currently serves as Chairman of Trent, Voltas, and Tata Investment Corporation, and as Vice Chairman of Tata Steel and Titan Company Limited. He has been the Chairman of Trent Ltd, Tata Group’s successful retail company, since 2014. During his tenure, Trent’s shares have surged by over 6,000% in the past decade, making it one of the group’s most prosperous ventures.
Before leading Trent, he served as the head of Tata International Ltd, where he increased the company’s revenue from $500 million to over $3 billion.

The Tata Trusts, founded in 1892 by Jamsetji Tata, play a central role in the Tata Group’s governance, holding a majority stake in Tata Sons. Ratan Tata, a revered business leader, was instrumental in transforming the Tata empire into a global conglomerate across multiple industries.
