Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court has put a stay on the order issued by the state’s Director General of Police (DGP), which transferred police sub-inspectors to the Home Guard cadre as Company Commanders. The DGP’s directive, issued on September 13, 2024, involved transferring sub-inspectors posted in various districts to the Home Guard department. The order was challenged in the High Court by Ramji Kumar and others.
During the hearing, the court instructed the state government to submit a response and scheduled the next hearing for October 21. The petitioners argued that they were appointed as sub-inspectors under the police cadre, and their services had already been confirmed. They contended that the police and Home Guard are distinct cadres, and the DGP does not have the authority to transfer them to another cadre. After hearing the petitioners’ argument, the court stayed the DGP’s order.
