New Delhi: In a major counter-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Akhnoor, security forces neutralized three heavily armed terrorists allegedly “here for a big purpose,” according to Major General Sameer Srivastava, GOC 10 Infantry Division. The operation leveraged artificial intelligence and an unmanned vehicle to swiftly locate and neutralize the threat in the dense, challenging terrain.

“We conducted a very successful operation where we neutralized three terrorists. I am thankful to all the security forces,” said Major General Srivastava at a press briefing. “We acted swiftly based on local information regarding suspicious movement. Given their heavy arms and posted threats, we believe they were here for a significant mission.”

The military utilized an autonomous vehicle specifically adapted for the rugged 30-degree terrain and dense forests, which helped security forces reach the terrorist hideout efficiently. Dispelling rumors about the vehicle type, Srivastava clarified, “We used a BMP-type vehicle suited for the tough area.”

Tragically, the operation claimed the life of Phantom, a four-year-old Belgian Malinois Army dog. Born in May 2020, Phantom had served in the region since August 2022, playing a vital role in multiple high-stakes missions. He sustained fatal injuries while protecting the troops during a counter-ambush maneuver. “We lost our Army dog, Phantom, during the search operation. His sacrifice saved many lives,” acknowledged Major General Srivastava.

The operation highlighted the high level of coordination between the Army and local authorities, with DIG Shiv Kumar Sharma of the Jammu-Samba-Kathua range detailing recent meetings with J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. “Our coordination with the Army ensures rapid response to any terrorist presence, and this synergy grows stronger each day,” Sharma stated.
