New Delhi: In a shocking development, a recent methamphetamine lab bust in Greater Noida has been linked to Mexico’s infamous Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG), a drug cartel notorious for extreme violence, cannibalistic initiation rituals, and militarized operations. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and Delhi Police’s Special Cell seized around 95 kg of drugs during the raid, which uncovered the global reach of CJNG’s illicit network.

The cartel, founded in 2010, has quickly become one of Mexico’s most powerful and feared organizations. Known to operate in over three dozen countries, CJNG’s presence in India highlights its expansive influence. The lab was allegedly run by a former warden from Delhi’s Tihar Jail, with a Mexican cartel member in Delhi reportedly overseeing drug quality checks.

“The way the CJNG operates is barbaric, with recruits subjected to brutal initiation rituals, including cannibalism,” reported the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project. Recruits in CJNG’s “terror schools” are reportedly forced to eat human flesh as part of a psychological warfare tactic. Sources described how trainees must consume body parts in front of cartel leaders without showing discomfort, with refusal leading to severe punishment.

The recent bust reflects CJNG’s entry into India and the intensifying efforts of global drug cartels to expand operations. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and other law enforcement agencies are closely monitoring online platforms for cartel-related activities as India grapples with the international reach of such criminal organizations.
