Chimur, Maharashtra: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition on Tuesday, accusing it of hindering Maharashtra’s growth and being heavily involved in corruption. Addressing a rally in Chimur, Chandrapur district, PM Modi claimed that the MVA coalition—comprising Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and the Congress—has consistently worked against the state’s development.

“Chandrapur’s people have waited for rail connectivity for years, but Congress and the Aghadi alliance obstructed every effort,” PM Modi said while campaigning for the BJP, allied with Maharashtra’s ruling Mahayuti government. “They’ve done a PhD in putting brakes on progress, and Congress holds a double PhD in it,” he quipped, adding, “‘Aghadi yani Bhrastachar ke sabse bade khiladi’ (Aghadi means the biggest players of corruption).”

The Prime Minister assured voters that the BJP’s manifesto would serve as a “Vikas Ki Guarantee” (development guarantee) for the next five years. He highlighted that a “double-engine government,” referring to BJP’s governance both at the Centre and in the state, would accelerate Maharashtra’s development.

He also took aim at Congress and the Gandhi family, alleging a history of elitism. “The Congress ‘shahi parivar’ (royal family) has always believed they were born to rule this country,” PM Modi stated, further accusing Congress of stifling the progress of marginalized communities like Dalits, backward classes, and Adivasis post-Independence.

Referencing an old Congress advertisement from Rajiv Gandhi’s tenure, PM Modi claimed it symbolized the party’s “anti-reservation” stance.

Maharashtra will hold single-phase elections on November 20 for its 288-seat Assembly, with results to be declared on November 23.
