Washington, D.C.: In an unconventional move, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, tapped by US President-elect Donald Trump to lead the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), have launched a unique hiring campaign through social media platform X. The department aims to revolutionize federal spending and restructure bloated systems with a team of “super high-IQ small-government revolutionaries.”

DOGE’s Unique Hiring Approach

The DOGE official account, which quickly amassed 1.2 million followers since its creation, announced the hiring drive, expressing gratitude to those eager to join its mission. However, the job posting clarified that DOGE is not seeking “part-time idea generators” but rather individuals willing to work over 80 hours per week on tedious, cost-cutting tasks.

Applicants are asked to submit their résumés via direct message on X, but only those with a premium, verified subscription ($8 monthly) can apply. Musk and Ramaswamy will personally evaluate the top 1% of applicants, although the criteria for selection remain unspecified.

No Salary, High Stakes

Compensation for the roles is explicitly zero. Musk described the positions as “tedious work” that would “make lots of enemies,” calling it a “great deal” in his signature sarcastic style. Ramaswamy echoed Musk’s stance, contrasting the expectations for DOGE recruits with the perceived inefficiency of existing government bureaucrats.

“This stands in contrast to government bureaucrats who: (a) do little or no work, (b) tell people only what they want to hear, & (c) make more money than the value they create,” Ramaswamy tweeted.

Mission and Timeline

President-elect Trump officially announced DOGE on Tuesday, outlining its mission to cut federal spending, eliminate unnecessary regulations, and overhaul federal agencies. The department, operating independently of the federal government, will act as an advisory body, with an ambitious completion deadline of July 4, 2026.

Musk promised dramatic results, claiming the initiative will “send shockwaves through the system” and root out government inefficiency.

Praise for Musk’s Leadership

When asked about the unconventional hiring methods, Trump’s transition team praised Musk’s innovative capabilities. “As President Trump has said, Elon Musk is a genius, an innovator, and has literally made history by building creative, modern, and efficient systems,” stated Karoline Leavitt, Trump-Vance Transition spokesperson.
