NEW DELHI: Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai has urged Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav to convene an emergency meeting to tackle the worsening air pollution in the capital. Rai has also demanded immediate approval for cloud seeding to induce artificial rains as a temporary measure to mitigate the crisis.

Rai Criticizes Central Government Inaction

Accusing the central government of neglect, Rai stated, “The BJP’s environment minister is sleeping over the Delhi government’s repeated requests to address the dire pollution situation.” He further demanded the resignation of Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, citing inaction.

Call for GRAP Implementation Across North India

Rai also emphasized the need for stringent implementation of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across North India, alleging that BJP-led states are violating the plan. He criticized the lack of uniform enforcement, which has exacerbated Delhi’s pollution woes.

Appeal to Prime Minister Modi

The Delhi minister appealed directly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene, urging the central government to take immediate and decisive measures. “The Prime Minister has a moral responsibility to address the pollution crisis. Necessary action must be taken to safeguard public health,” Rai added.
