NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s environmental initiative, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (One Tree for Mother), received a global boost on Wednesday as Guyana’s President Irfaan Ali participated by planting a sapling in Georgetown. The symbolic act highlights international recognition of the campaign, launched on World Environment Day, June 5, 2024.

The initiative encourages individuals to plant a tree as a tribute to their mothers, fostering a connection between environmental conservation and maternal love.

Global Collaboration for Environmental Consciousness

“This isn’t just about planting trees; it’s about creating a global bond through shared values of respecting nature and honoring motherhood,” stated a senior official.

The collaborative tree-planting act signifies a step forward in uniting nations for a sustainable future. PM Modi, in a post on X, expressed gratitude, saying, “A shared commitment to sustainability! In a very special gesture, the President of Guyana and my friend, Dr. Irfaan Ali, took part in the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ movement by planting a tree with his grandmother and mother-in-law.”

A Tribute to Nature and Maternal Love

The campaign, initiated in India, has already inspired millions to take part. Its global reach symbolizes the universality of its message: care for the environment and celebrate the essence of motherhood.

As the initiative gains momentum, it reinforces the importance of sustainability and international unity in addressing environmental challenges.
