Ranchi: The tenure of Dr. Anil Kumar Mahato, the chairman of the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC), is set to end on January 18. With his retirement, JAC will be left without a chairman, potentially affecting the smooth conduct of various upcoming examinations, including those for classes 8, 9, 10 (Matric), 11, and 12 (Intermediate). Administrative operations at JAC are also likely to be disrupted unless the state government appoints a new chairman promptly.

Upcoming Exams at Stake

Dr. Mahato emphasized that his term is constitutionally fixed and that the onus is now on the government to ensure a timely appointment. Without a new chairman, scheduled examinations and administrative functions could face delays.

Government’s Assurance

School Education Minister Hafizul Hasan Ansari assured that discussions are underway, and a new chairman will be appointed soon to prevent disruptions. The tenure for the JAC chairman is three years.

Previous Delays in Appointments

It’s worth noting that the position of JAC chairman remained vacant for four months following the end of the tenure of former chairman Dr. Arvind Prasad Singh and vice-chairman Phool Singh in September 2021. The appointments were made only on January 18, 2022, after significant intervention from then Education Minister Jagarnath Mahato. Dr. Anil Kumar Mahato, a former professor at Ranchi University, was appointed chairman, and Dr. Vinod Kumar Singh was appointed vice-chairman.
