New Delhi: A Bengaluru civil court has granted bail to Nikita Singhania, wife of Atul Subhash, who tragically died by suicide, along with her mother Nisha Singhania and brother Anurag Singhania. The bail comes amidst ongoing investigations into the case that has stirred public attention.
Public prosecutor Ponnanna expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, stating, “The investigation is still pending, and granting bail at this stage hampers the process. We are not happy with the bail order and will challenge it.”
Details of the Case
Atul Subhash was found dead on December 9 in his Bengaluru apartment. He left behind a 90-minute video and a 40-page note, accusing his wife and in-laws of harassment and pressuring him to pay ₹3 crore for a divorce. The police subsequently arrested Nikita, her mother, and brother, who were remanded to 14-day judicial custody.
The FIR filed against the accused invoked Sections 108 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). The complaint, lodged by Bikas Kumar, alleged abetment of suicide by the trio.
Defense Argument
During questioning, Nikita denied the allegations of harassment, claiming she had been living separately from Atul for nearly three years. “I was not living with him. How can I harass someone for money when we were apart?” Nikita reportedly stated. She also claimed she had been a victim of harassment, countering the narrative presented in the complaint.
Further Investigation Pending
The prosecution highlighted the premature nature of the bail, emphasizing that the investigation was far from complete. Public prosecutor Ponnanna added, “We are examining the grounds on which bail has been granted and will take appropriate legal steps to challenge the decision.”
