New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) engaged in a heated war of words ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. While AAP mocked the BJP for not naming a chief ministerial candidate, the BJP retaliated with sharp criticism, labeling the Arvind Kejriwal-led party as a “disaster” (‘aapda’) for Delhi.

AAP’s Mockery Over Missing CM Face

AAP launched its attack by sharing a satirical video depicting a horse without a groom (‘dulha’), symbolizing the BJP’s lack of a CM candidate. The ruling party in Delhi claimed the BJP lacked leadership and direction ahead of the elections.

In response, BJP leaders hit back, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the charge. Speaking at a rally in Ashok Vihar, PM Modi alleged that the AAP government had been marred by corruption.

PM Modi’s ‘Aapda’ Remark

“They have committed scams in liquor, education, and pollution. This government has become a disaster (‘aapda’) for Delhi,” PM Modi asserted. He accused the AAP of indulging in open corruption and claimed the residents of Delhi were ready to “fight this disaster.”

Kejriwal Fires Back

Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP supremo and former Delhi Chief Minister, dismissed the BJP’s accusations, asserting that the real disaster lies within the BJP. “The BJP doesn’t have a CM face, a narrative, or an agenda for Delhi,” he countered, claiming that the opposition had no concrete plan for the city’s governance.

Kejriwal also reiterated his earlier promise to return as CM only with a “certificate of honesty” from the people of Delhi. He resigned last year following his arrest in the excise policy case, with Atishi taking over the top post.

Elections Around the Corner

With the Delhi Assembly elections expected next month, the political atmosphere remains charged. The BJP has been out of power in Delhi since 1998, while AAP has enjoyed consecutive landslide victories, securing 67 seats in 2015 and 62 in 2020. The Election Commission is yet to announce the poll dates.
