Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar has credited the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for the BJP’s electoral victories at the Centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and in Maharashtra under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Speaking during the NCP executive meeting, Pawar acknowledged the efforts of RSS workers in securing BJP’s strong performance, adding that without their relentless dedication, the results would not have been as favorable for the party.
Pawar also attributed the Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA)’s defeat in the Maharashtra Assembly elections to the organizational strength of the RSS. The election results, declared on November 23, marked a significant setback for the MVA.
MVA Suffers Heavy Defeat in Assembly Polls
The MVA, which had delivered an impressive performance in the Lok Sabha elections six months earlier, faced a crushing defeat in the Assembly elections. Over a month and a half after the results, the Sharad Pawar-led NCP faction reviewed the reasons behind the loss. During the meeting on Wednesday, Pawar praised the RSS’s disciplined and strategic approach to election campaigning.
Political Tensions Rise After Sarpanch’s Murder
Meanwhile, political tensions in Maharashtra have escalated following the murder of Beed district sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh. The victim’s family recently met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, urging swift action. Reports indicate that several suspects have been arrested, though one remains at large. Among those apprehended is Valmik Karad, who has also been booked for extortion.
Sharad Pawar Raised Concerns Before the Incident
Four days before the sarpanch’s murder, Sharad Pawar had reportedly called Chief Minister Fadnavis to discuss threats of extortion faced by windmill owners. Following their conversation, Fadnavis promised to take action against such activities. Allegations suggest that Valmik Karad demanded ₹2 crore in extortion from a windmill owner.
