While Shibu Soren spearheaded the movement for a separate Jharkhand, Babulal Marandi served as its first Chief Minister.
Shibu Soren: The Formation of JMM and Leadership Legacy
Born on January 11, 1944, in Nemra village, Ramgarh, Shibu Soren, also known as Dishom Guru, founded the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). His journey was deeply influenced by personal tragedy when his father, Sobran Manjhi, was murdered in 1957 while opposing exploitative moneylending practices.
Shibu Soren led the movement demanding a separate state for Jharkhand and served as its Chief Minister three times. He was also a Rajya Sabha MP twice and held the Coal Ministry portfolio in the Union Government, further solidifying his role in Jharkhand’s political and developmental landscape.
Babulal Marandi: From Teacher to Chief Minister
Born on January 11, 1958, in Kodai Bank village, Giridih, Babulal Marandi transitioned from being a teacher to becoming Jharkhand’s first Chief Minister after its formation in 2000. His tenure laid the foundation for the state’s governance and development. Later, he also served as the President of the BJP Jharkhand Unit, contributing significantly to the state’s political framework.
