Ranchi: Jharkhand Police is set to demonstrate the detection of cyber crimes related to APK applications. Under the directive of DGP Anurag Gupta, a meeting will be conducted via video conferencing today, where Jamtara Police will present a demo of their findings on APK application-related cyber fraud. This comes after Jamtara Police apprehended cybercriminals on January 25, who were using tools like ChatGPT and artificial intelligence (AI) to create fraudulent apps.

From Learning To Mastering App Development

The cybercriminals learned app development from a software engineer and later became proficient in building their own apps with the help of ChatGPT and AI. These apps are sold to other fraudsters for ₹20,000–₹25,000. Once downloaded, these apps give the perpetrators complete control over the victim’s device, including mobile phones and laptops.

Discovery Of Over 100 Apps

During investigations following the arrests, Jamtara Police unearthed over 100 such malicious apps. It was revealed that the perpetrators began learning app development a year ago and started creating and selling apps to avoid police detection.

The fraudsters used ChatGPT and AI for troubleshooting during app development, including removing viruses and fine-tuning the code. Before selling the apps, they tested them on virus detection portals and made necessary adjustments to evade detection.

Implications Of The Demo

The demo aims to highlight the growing threat of cybercriminals leveraging advanced technologies like artificial intelligence to perpetrate crimes, stressing the importance of vigilance and awareness among users and law enforcement agencies.
