New Delhi: India and the United States are working on finalizing an early visit for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Washington, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed in a statement on Friday.

The MEA stated, “PM and President Trump had a telephone conversation recently. The two sides are working on an early visit of PM to the US to further deepen the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. Specific dates for the visit would be announced at the appropriate time.”

This would mark PM Modi’s first visit to the US since Donald Trump returned to power for a second term.

Strengthening India-US Ties

Following Trump’s election victory, PM Modi was among the first global leaders to extend his congratulations. He referred to Trump as “My Friend” and expressed optimism for strengthening India-US relations.

“As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our collaboration to strengthen the INDIA-US Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership. Together, let’s work for the betterment of our people and to promote global peace, stability, and prosperity,” PM Modi wrote in his congratulatory post.

Growing India-US Relations Amid China’s Expansion

India and the US have grown closer strategically, especially in light of China’s increasing influence in Southeast Asia. The Quad alliance, along with economic and defense partnerships, has reinforced India’s role as a key US ally in the Indo-Pacific region.

Trump has hosted PM Modi on multiple grand occasions, most notably the “Howdy Modi” event in Houston, attended by over 50,000 people in 2019. The Prime Minister reciprocated with “Namaste Trump” in Gujarat, which witnessed a massive gathering of 1.2 lakh attendees.

Awaiting Official Dates

While discussions for the visit are underway, official dates will be announced soon. The visit is expected to focus on trade, defense cooperation, regional security, and investment opportunities between India and the US.

As diplomatic efforts continue, the world will be watching how the renewed India-US alliance shapes global geopolitics in the coming months.
