Ranchi: Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi has strongly criticized the Hemant Soren government following the broad daylight murder of NTPC Hazaribagh DGM Gaurav Kumar. He expressed deep shock over the killing and accused the state government of emboldening criminals through its statements on the coal business.
Coal Trader Attacked, Yet No Police Action
Babulal Marandi pointed out that even after a murderous attack on a coal trader in Ranchi on March 7, the police failed to take preventive action, resulting in the tragic killing of a young and promising officer. He alleged that Hemant Soren’s statements have incited criminals, turning the coal trade into a battleground of violence.
Illegal Coal Theft Under Government Protection
Marandi further alleged that thousands of trucks loaded with stolen coal move out daily from regions like Dhanbad, Bokaro, Ramgarh, Hazaribagh, and Chatra, all under the protection of government machinery. He claimed that the profits from this illegal trade are distributed across all levels of administration, ensuring its unchecked continuation.
Will Innocent Lives Continue To Be Lost In The Coal Mafia’s Game?
He warned that unless the state cracks down on coal theft, such murders will keep happening, leading to the loss of more innocent lives. Marandi urged Chief Minister Hemant Soren to take immediate action and put an end to coal theft in the state.
Need For Honest SIT To Tackle Coal Crime
While the formation of an SIT (Special Investigation Team) to probe the murder is a positive step, Marandi stressed that without honest officers leading the investigation, coal-related crimes cannot be curbed. He questioned, “How can we stop coal theft if those responsible for protecting it are involved in the crime?”
Ensure Security For NTPC Officials And Coal Traders
Marandi demanded that the state DGP take urgent measures to protect coal project officials, employees, and traders. He emphasized that strict action is needed to restore law and order in Jharkhand’s coal belt, ensuring the safe operation of coal businesses.
