Ranchi: Notorious gangster Aman Sahu, who had become a major challenge for Jharkhand Police, was killed in an encounter on Tuesday morning in Andhari Dhoda, Chainpur, Palamu.

Aman Sahu was being brought from Raipur to Ranchi by a special police team for questioning. He was in police remand when the vehicle carrying him met with an accident in Chainpur, Palamu.

Taking advantage of the situation, Sahu snatched a police weapon and attempted to flee the scene. When police tried to stop him, he opened fire, prompting a retaliatory action by the security forces. Sahu was shot multiple times and died on the spot.

Although the incident is yet to be officially confirmed, sources suggest that Sahu’s reign of terror in Jharkhand had been increasing over the years, making him one of the state’s most wanted criminals.

Gang’s Criminal Activities and Police Action

Sahu’s gang has been involved in extortion, arson, murder, and firing incidents, particularly targeting coal transporters and businesses. Just three days ago, members of his gang opened fire on coal transporter Bipin Mishra in Ranchi’s Bariatu Road area.

Jharkhand Police had been conducting extensive crackdowns against the Aman Sahu gang, arresting over 30 gang members in the past year. Despite these actions, the gang continued to threaten coal businesses in Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Chhattisgarh, demanding extortion money.

Criminal Record of Aman Sahu Gang

The gang was also suspected of involvement in the murder of NTPC DGM Kumar Gaurav in Hazaribagh. Under SP Rishabh Jha’s leadership, Jharkhand ATS had been taking aggressive action against organized crime networks.

Gang Members and Associates

Jharkhand ATS had registered cases against 22 criminals associated with the gang, including:

• Aakash Sahu (Aman Sahu’s brother)

• Aakash Roy Monu

• Hari Tiwari

• Ashish Sahu

• Rahul Singh

• Raja Ansari

• Rahul Dubey

• Yogeshwar Mahato

Another key member, Mayank Singh, was actively threatening coal businessmen across Jharkhand, Bengal, and Chhattisgarh, demanding extortion money and even claiming responsibility for criminal activities via social media.

Notorious Crimes Committed by Aman Sahu Gang

Here’s a timeline of the major crimes executed by the gang:

• March 7, 2025 – Coal trader Bipin Mishra shot and injured in Ranchi.

• April 6, 2024 – Threat issued to Barbarik Company, warning them against operating in Jharkhand.

• March 21, 2024 – Land trader in Ranchi demanded ₹5 crore extortion in the name of Aman Sahu.

• December 1, 2023 – Firing outside a transport office in Kuju, Ramgarh.

• July 7, 2023 – Coal trader Ranjit Gupta shot in Argora, Ranchi.

• July 9, 2023 – Transporter Amit Singh threatened in Latehar.

• May 9, 2023 – Ritwik Company project coordinator Sharat Kumar murdered in Barkagaon, Hazaribagh.

• March 27, 2023 – Firing at Hardev Construction office in Deoghar.

• February 18, 2023 – Attack at Sai Kripa Company’s railway site in Shivpur.

With Aman Sahu’s encounter, police believe they have delivered a major blow to the gang’s activities. However, efforts will continue to completely dismantle the organized crime network operating in Jharkhand and neighboring states.
