Bengaluru: Hours after his expulsion from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Vijayapura MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal launched a scathing attack on the party’s Karnataka leadership, alleging that internal infighting, adjustment politics, and one-man upmanship are pushing the party to its lowest point in the state.
In a strongly-worded post on X, Yatnal accused the BJP of shielding those who weakened the party during elections—particularly in key regions like Kalaburagi, Raichur, Ballari, and Chikkodi—while punishing leaders like him who sought reforms.
“Those vested interests who rampantly indulged in Adjustment Politics weakening the party in Karnataka have gone scot-free… While those who wanted to reform the party by ending the one-man upmanship and family-centered politics have been suspended or served notices,” he said.
Yatnal also took aim at the state unit’s failure to discipline legislators who openly supported the Congress, saying that only after pressure from party workers were they served notices. He accused the leadership of prioritizing loyalty over accountability, even in the face of electoral defeats.
“Some leaders in the State now are masquerading as carriers of the party legacy and will only cause the party’s downfall in the days to come,” he warned.
Ignored Setbacks, Suppressed Voices
The expelled leader alleged that the party high command chose to ignore critical defeats in traditional strongholds and instead targeted those questioning internal issues.
“Instead of introspecting on the defeat, the party has cracked down on those who asked the right questions,” Yatnal added.
Despite the expulsion, Yatnal maintained his ideological commitment, declaring that he would continue to uphold the principles of “Nation First, Party Next, Self Last.”
His ouster follows a string of public remarks targeting the BJP’s state leadership and decision-making, which the party viewed as indiscipline and anti-party activity.
