Ranchi: Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi has launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Hemant Soren, accusing his government of indulging in “political theatrics” over the FIRs lodged against tribal protestors opposing the flyover ramp construction in Ranchi.
Marandi, in a statement on Tuesday, said the government’s move to register cases against tribals celebrating Sarhul and then issue an order to avoid any action against them was nothing but a staged drama.
“First, you file FIRs against those celebrating their tribal festival to instill fear, and then issue a press release saying no action will be taken — just to earn sympathy. This is classic drama by the Hemant Soren-led government,” said the BJP leader.
Suspend Policemen Who Filed FIRs: Marandi
Marandi asserted that if the Chief Minister genuinely respects the sentiments associated with the Sarhul festival, then immediate and strict action should be taken against the police officials who lodged the FIRs in the first place.
“If the Chief Minister truly values the spirit of Sarhul, he must suspend the policemen who registered the FIRs and ensure strict disciplinary action against them,” he added.
Earlier, the state government had instructed that no action be taken against those booked during the protest against the construction near the Sarna Sthal (tribal place of worship), following widespread criticism from tribal groups and civil society.
