New Delhi: A powerful earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale struck Tajikistan early Sunday morning, causing panic among residents in the central region of the country. The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 16 kilometers, according to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).

5.9 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Tajikistan

The earthquake occurred at around 11 am (IST), shaking parts of Tajikistan with significant intensity. The epicenter was reported to be in the central region, situated 16 kilometers beneath the earth’s surface. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, though there have been no immediate reports of casualties or major damage.

Myanmar Rocked By 5.5 Magnitude Earthquake

Meanwhile, Myanmar experienced strong tremors early Sunday morning, registering 5.5 magnitude on the Richter scale. The quake struck at 7:54 am, with the epicenter located just 10 kilometers beneath the surface, the National Center for Seismology reported.

Panic gripped residents in several parts of Myanmar, forcing them to rush out of their homes. Fortunately, no casualties or property damage have been reported from this latest tremor so far.

Myanmar Still Recovering From Devastating March Earthquake

It is worth noting that Myanmar is still recovering from the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck the country on March 28, 2025. That quake led to massive destruction, with over 3,600 fatalities and more than 5,000 injuries, according to military sources.

Seismic Activity Raises Concerns In The Region

The recent earthquakes in Tajikistan and Myanmar have raised concerns over heightened seismic activity in the region. Authorities in both countries have urged citizens to stay alert and follow safety protocols in the event of aftershocks.
