Chandigarh: A potential air attack warning issued from the Chandigarh Air Force Station has prompted a high alert in the Union Territory on Friday, amid rising hostilities between India and Pakistan. The administration sounded emergency sirens across the city, creating panic among residents, and strongly advised people to stay indoors, away from rooftops and balconies.
Air Force issues warning, civilian alert triggered
In an official statement, the Chandigarh administration confirmed receiving a credible warning of a possible aerial threat from the Air Force. As a precautionary measure, sirens were activated and citizens were urged to remain calm, avoid spreading rumours, and follow official instructions strictly.
Security forces across the city have been placed on high alert, with intensified patrols in sensitive zones, especially around the Air Force base. The administration has also set up emergency helplines and urged citizens to report any suspicious activity.
Educational institutions shut, public advised to remain cautious
The Punjab government has ordered the closure of all schools, colleges, and universities for three days as a precautionary measure. Surveillance and security have been tightened further following the alert.
The air raid warning follows Thursday night’s escalation, where Pakistani drones and missiles attempted to target multiple Indian cities. However, Indian defence forces thwarted all attacks and launched precision retaliatory strikes on Karachi, Lahore, Sialkot, and Peshawar, causing significant disruption across Pakistan.
Citizens are advised to stay informed via official channels only, keep emergency supplies ready, and avoid unnecessary movement until further notice.
