Ranchi: Residents of Jharkhand reeling under severe heat and humidity can finally expect some relief. The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms across several districts starting June 13, with a yellow alert issued for the entire state. Lightning strikes and gusty winds are also expected during this period.

Rain likely till June 16

According to the weather department, light to moderate rainfall is likely to continue till June 16 across various districts including Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Lohardaga, Gumla, Khunti, and Simdega. The forecast also includes warnings for thunderstorms and lightning. Wind speeds may touch 40-50 kilometers per hour during this spell.

Authorities urge caution

The Electricity Department and Disaster Management Authority have urged people to take necessary precautions. Officials have informed that power supply may be temporarily disrupted in some areas as a safety measure against high-voltage lightning strikes.

Do’s for safety

All electronic devices such as inverters, televisions, computers, Wi-Fi routers, and microwaves should be unplugged from power sockets. Avoid charging mobile phones during lightning. Do not touch any appliances with metal bodies. Keep windows and doors closed to prevent lightning from entering indoors.

Don’ts for safety

Avoid standing in open fields, farms, or under tall trees. Stay away from electric poles or exposed wires. Refrain from using internet or TV cables during lightning. Farmers and rural residents are advised to remain extra cautious while working in fields during this period.
