Dehradun: A devastating cloudburst in the Dharali area of Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand, has wreaked havoc, damaging roads and severely impacting normal life. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted an aerial survey today and reviewed the situation on the ground.

CM Reviews Rescue and Relief Efforts

On Wednesday, CM Dhami visited the State Emergency Operations Center to assess ongoing rescue and relief operations. He confirmed that teams from ITBP, SDRF, NDRF, and the local administration are working on a war footing. Over 130 individuals have been rescued so far, although damaged roads and bridges are hampering rescue efforts. The state disaster management center remains active 24/7, ensuring that relief materials reach affected regions.

PM Modi Assures Full Support

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to CM Dhami to get an update on the situation. The CM informed him that the state government is fully committed to rescue operations. The Prime Minister assured complete support from the central government, and the Chief Minister expressed gratitude for the prompt response.

Roads Blocked, BRO Carries Out Repairs

Landslides triggered by the cloudburst and heavy rainfall have blocked several routes, including the Uttarkashi-Harsil Road, Bhattwari area, and NH-34 (Gangotri Highway). BRO teams are working tirelessly with JCB machines to clear debris and restore connectivity. Adverse weather continues to challenge relief work, but efforts remain in full swing. The state has urged citizens to avoid rumors and rely solely on official updates.

Opposition Calls for Broader Strategy

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed sorrow and emphasized the need for a comprehensive national strategy to prevent such disasters, citing similar tragedies in Himachal Pradesh and Wayanad. MP Pramod Tiwari called the situation horrifying and urged for unified assistance efforts. BJP MP Kangana Ranaut also voiced concern, calling the scenes from Uttarkashi heartbreaking and prayed for a speedy recovery for those affected.
