New Delhi: Heavy rainfall in the national capital on Thursday morning claimed one life and injured another when a tree fell near Nehru Place Metro station. The victim died on the spot, while his daughter sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Accident During Morning Downpour
The incident occurred around 10 a.m. as relentless rains since early morning disrupted vehicular movement across Delhi-NCR. Additional DCP (Southeast) Aishwarya Sharma confirmed that the injured daughter is receiving medical attention. The heavy downpour led to massive traffic snarls during peak office hours on key routes including Ring Road, Outer Ring Road, Delhi-Meerut Expressway, DND Flyway, Mathura Road, Gurgaon Road, Vikas Marg, GT Road, and several other busy stretches.
Traffic Chaos and Waterlogging Across City
Delhi Traffic Police issued multiple advisories warning of waterlogging at several underpasses and key points such as Azad Market Railway Underpass, AIIMS Flyover, South Extension Loop, and Moolchand underpass. Diversions were put in place around affected areas, with commuters advised to take alternate routes. Heavy congestion was also reported along Dhaula Kuan–Dwarka Road, Sardar Patel Marg, Rao Tula Ram Marg, Shanti Path, Africa Avenue, and Vandemataram Marg.
