Ranchi: Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi has raised a grave concern, stating that in parts of East Singhbhum, tribal families are giving intoxicants to their children instead of food due to extreme poverty and hunger. He said the shocking reality questions not only governance but also humanity itself.
Children Trapped in Addiction
According to Marandi, villages like Parulia and Dumka Kocha under Ghatsila have reached such a state of deprivation that children who should be holding books and toys are instead being pushed into addiction. Basic health and education facilities are absent, leaving the Sabar and Birhor tribes in a state of neglect. He criticized the state government for failing the very communities whose voices brought it to power, warning that hunger and addiction are pushing them to the brink of extinction.
Call for Government Action
Marandi urged the government to take urgent steps to safeguard the future of tribal children, stressing that administration must work actively to remove the practice of intoxicant use and promote awareness. He alleged that those who try to raise their voice for education and welfare of these children are silenced through encounters, citing the case of Surya Hansda, a tribal leader killed under controversial circumstances.
Justice for Surya Hansda
Sharing a video linked to Hansda’s case, Marandi said the pain of the children demanding justice is beyond comprehension. He questioned whether Hansda was killed simply for working to improve the lives of tribal children. Marandi pledged that justice must be delivered to Hansda and the children he supported, promising to continue the fight until those responsible are punished.
