New Delhi: The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved India’s submission of a bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The Cabinet has also cleared the signing of the Host Collaboration Agreement and assured financial support to the Gujarat government if the bid succeeds.

Ahmedabad Selected As Host City

Ahmedabad has been chosen as the proposed host city, with plans to leverage world-class infrastructure including the Narendra Modi Stadium, which earlier showcased its capabilities by successfully hosting the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Final. The Games are expected to bring athletes from 72 nations, along with coaches, technical officials, tourists, and media, generating significant global attention.

Economic And Employment Opportunities

According to the Cabinet note, hosting the Games will not only boost tourism but also create jobs across diverse sectors such as sports science, event management, logistics, transport, broadcasting, media, IT, and public relations. Local businesses are expected to benefit from the influx of international visitors and large-scale operations tied to the event.

Boost To National Pride And Sports Participation

The government emphasised that beyond sports, hosting the CWG will inspire millions of young athletes, encourage wider participation in sports, and foster a sense of national pride and unity. The Press Information Bureau noted that such a prestigious global event would provide a shared national experience, lift the country’s morale, and motivate a new generation to pursue sports as a career.
