New Delhi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, 83, has been admitted to MS Ramaiah Hospital in Bengaluru for a planned pacemaker implantation procedure. His son, Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge, confirmed that the veteran leader is stable and doing well under medical supervision.
Health Condition And Hospitalisation
Kharge was taken to the hospital on Tuesday after he developed a fever and complained of leg pain. Doctors advised the pacemaker procedure as a precautionary step. Party colleagues reassured supporters that his condition is stable and there is no cause for concern.
Upcoming Political Engagements
Despite his hospitalisation, Kharge’s schedule remains packed. He recently attended the extended Congress Working Committee meeting in Patna on September 24. He is expected to address a public rally in Kohima, Nagaland, on October 7. The rally, themed “Safe Democracy, Safe Secularism, and Safe Nagaland,” will focus on youth employment, entrepreneurship, governance, and connectivity, and is expected to draw over 10,000 people.
Significance Of Nagaland Rally
Congress MP KL Jamir emphasised that the Kohima rally is more than a routine party event, serving as a platform to highlight the broader concerns of the Northeast, particularly for minorities. Kharge will be joined by senior leaders, including Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal and Nagaland in-charge MP Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka.
