New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday praised US President Donald Trump’s role in advancing peace in Gaza, shortly after Hamas agreed to key elements of Trump’s 20-point peace plan. Modi hailed the “decisive progress” made in securing the release of hostages and reiterated India’s commitment to supporting lasting peace in the region.
India Backs Trump’s Peace Initiative
Modi posted on X that India welcomes Trump’s leadership, noting that the hostage release signals a “significant step forward.” Earlier this week, the Prime Minister had endorsed Trump’s plan, describing it as a “viable pathway” to sustainable peace for both Palestinians and Israelis. His statement was later reshared by Trump on Truth Social without comment, underlining the diplomatic alignment between the two leaders.
Hamas Accepts Key Provisions
Hamas announced late Friday that it had accepted parts of the peace proposal, including an end to the conflict, Israeli withdrawal, the release of both Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, and the initiation of aid and reconstruction efforts. The decision came hours after Trump issued an ultimatum demanding Hamas accept the deal by Sunday evening (US time) or face severe consequences.
Trump’s Reaction And Global Response
Reacting to the developments, Trump urged Israel to halt its bombing of Gaza to allow the safe release of hostages. He emphasized that the moment represents more than just a Gaza breakthrough—it’s a major step toward long-sought Middle East peace. Trump thanked countries including Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan for their roles in brokering the plan, calling it “a very special day” and expressing hope that the final details would soon be finalized.
